Installing Waterproof Gazebo Covers
So, you have a gazebo, which is great in the summer months when the weather is warm and just the right temperature to spend outdoors, whether it is eating, chilling, reading or sleeping in it. Gazebos outside of the summer months need a little more attention for them to really be put to full use.
Waterproof gazebo covers can be ideal when you need a place to get away from the house in the cooler months of the year. The question of course is, how do you go about finding one?
Thankfully there are many types of gazebo covers available on the web, usually prefabricated with materials such as canvas or treated thick cloth, but also less breathable materials such as plastic. You can usually pick them up on places like Ebay.
You have 2 other options open to you if you’re looking to create an outdoor space for yourself in the cooler months.
You could just simply purchase a fold up gazebo, which can simply be put away when things get a little warmer, and allows you to go back to the summer gazebo. This may not be ideal though, as you will have a number of different types of furniture in the gazebo, and may not want to transfer these to the temporary winter gazebo. You may also not have enough space in your yard or garden to fit a second gazebo. You may also not have the facilities to heat a gazebo.
The other option open to you is to create your own gazebo cover. This is relatively straightforward. Just grab a tape measure, and get the right dimensions of your gazebo. Then get some canvas or another type of material, and then fit it to the outside of the gazebo. You can either use temporary attachments, or permanent ones. It is also worth creating the roof in a single piece to avoid leaks.

Get a Canopy For Your Deck
If you like to spend a lot of time outside on your deck, then you probably already realize that sometimes it’s just too hot out there to enjoy it, or you worry about your kids (or you!) getting too much sun. That’s where deck canopies can come in handy. By putting up a canopy over your deck area, you can provide some much needed shade, and can even spend time outdoors when it rains, watching the raindrops falling from the sky while still enjoying a bit of fresh air.
There are many options to choose from when it comes to putting a canopy over your deck. You can install a permanent structure or one that is retractable or even temporary. If you aren’t interested in putting up a more permanent structure, but you’re having a party or the weather is just too hot and you need some overhead protection, you may want to try one of the portable canopies that are on the market. They are relatively inexpensive, are easy to open and close, store away when not in use, and can be moved anywhere you need them. You can get a First Up canopy or one of the many other brands on the market like EZ Up or others.
If instead you want something more permanent, you can choose to put up a structure made from wood, metal or aluminum, or you can install a canopy that is more like those stylish porch awnings, with a fabric or vinyl covering. If you choose the latter, you can get one that stays up all the time, or you can opt to get a model that rolls up when you don’t need it, which is nice because when you want your deck open to the skies above, you can just roll back the canopy. No matter what you choose, having the overhead covering is nice to have.

How Porch Awning Material Has Improved
Often, it is the little things that make the big difference in how you are able to enjoy your patio space. Well, in this case, a little shade can go a long way. You know what it’s like to be sitting out on your deck or patio space in the intense summer sun. For that matter, depending on what part of the country you’re in, it can be intense in more than just the summer. So, when it comes to owning awnings that can give you years of use and shade, it is vital that the materials from which they are made are of good quality.
What makes a good quality awning or shade, then? Well, the answer to that is not simple. After all, there are vinyl awnings that work just as well as others. However, if you really want something that will give you long lasting performance, look into ultraviolet (UV) resistant fabrics. More to the point, find shades and awnings made of these types of fabrics. It shouldn’t be hard in today’s market. In fact, if you want a leg up, check into Sunbrella™ and see what they have available. You’ll be thrilled by what you find there.
They are a bit more expensive than other brands and styles, but you will certainly get what you pay for. If you’re just looking for some cheap patio awnings to give you a little shade in some corner of your deck, then maybe you should consider a different option. What we’re referring to is checking into the variety of patio umbrella choices. You might find that for the space and money, an umbrella will be your perfect solution. You can find them in most of the same styles and patterns as the awnings. Also, they come in cantilever or offset styles that can give you even more usable floor or deck space.
These various umbrellas and porch awning materials are more sophisticated than you might think. In fact, the brand we mentioned earlier has a description about how they make their fabric. The one step that makes the dye ‘fade resistant’ has to do with a process whereby they add the dye material during the ‘wet stage’ of production. This yields a finished product that is more ‘permanently’ colored throughout the material, rather than just on the surface. Can’t say that it is totally comprehensible, but it makes for great materials for porch awnings and that is all that matters.
